Vessels don’t generally operate in isolation and this is particularly true of fishing vessels who can have complex networks of support and ownership. Understanding and uncovering these networks can help to risk assess vessels and the various fleets they operate in.

On-water networks

By inspecting encounters and likely transshipments in Starboard you can uncover relationships between vessels related to the transfer of fish, fuel, and supplies.

Company networks

Reviewing ownership information from S&P Global Market Intelligence, the ownership or management network and fleet level information (including risk indicators, flags, RFMO registrations, and company details) can be analysed.

Learn more: IUU listed or closely linked risk indicators

To support efficient fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance, Starboard maintains the IUU listed or closely linked risk indicators. We assign these indicators to vessels that have engaged in illegal, unreported, or unregulated (IUU) fishing as well as vessels that are closely linked to those through encounters.
