The Areas page of the main toolbar provides a centralised view of areas available in your organisation. You can use this page to show or hide, edit, and archive these areas. You are also able to share an area with another group in your organisation or enterprise, and download a geojson file to your computer.

Owned, shared, and global areas

The Areas page presents you with three sub-sections:

  • Our areas – Private areas which are specific to your enterprise, organisation, or group. This includes any custom areas that have been created by members.

  • Areas shared with us – Shared with you by members of your enterprise. If your organisation is not part of a wider enterprise in Starboard, then you are only able to share areas between your organisation’s groups.

  • Global areas – These are open-source areas which are available to all Starboard users. For example, the global exclusive economic zones.

Sharing and managing areas

Areas in your organisation or group can be shared with anyone under the same enterprise. Use the Action drop-down menu for the area you would like to share or edit.

You can edit areas created by you or other users in your group. If the area was created by Starboard or it had been shared with your group, you can request an edit.

Download area saves a geojson file to your computer, and Archive area removes the area from the active list. Archiving is only allowed for areas created within the user’s group. Archived areas can be shown and unarchived under a drop-down section at the bottom of the page.
