You can now set alerts for selected or tagged vessels when they start transmitting AIS again after an outage. This feature is particularly useful for:

  • Tracking vessels that may have turned off their AIS on purpose, such as during illegal activities or to avoid detection;

  • Monitoring vessels that have been experiencing technical difficulties, such as a power outage or a faulty AIS transceiver; and

  • Identifying gaps in AIS receiver coverage.

Creating the alert

Start by selecting one or more vessels or a tagged vessel list for the alert. Click the Create alert button the top right of the Starboard map view and choose the vessels for the alert. Starts transmitting AIS is under the activity dropdown. Assign recipients of the email notification and notification frequency.

Note:

  • When a vessel starts transmitting AIS, you will receive one alert by email, and it will also appear in the activity feed.

  • After the alert is sent, it will turn off automatically and will not send more alerts for the same vessel unless you create a new one.

Tip: Alerts are added to a vessel's history and can be useful for future analysis. If you want to include these events for vessels, but you would prefer not to receive email alert notifications, you can unsubscribe under manage notification preferences and alerts.

Important details

  • The alert only works if the vessel has been offline for more than 1 hour.

  • If you set an alert for a vessel that was offline for less than 1 hour, you will still receive an email, and the alert will turn off immediately.

  • You can set alerts for groups of tagged vessels. You will receive an email for each vessel in the group when it starts transmitting.

  • After receiving an email, you can choose to reset it by creating a new alert for a specific vessel or an entire group. Note that the alert will trigger immediately unless the vessel has been offline for more than 1 hour.
